The Design Studio, whilst having a professional commitment to art and creativity, understands the requirements of a university like only an on-campus service can.

Our service started more than 20 years ago as UNSW Publishing and Printing Services. Now with a new home and new technology, we can offer even more services to reflect the technological innovations. Not only do you as a university client benefit from our much lower rates, you also benefit from knowing that we are solely committed to the university, providing high quality creative service to all staff on campus.

Do you actually save money?

  • Freelance designers require client’s administration and are usually more expensive due to transportation required.
  • The fee we charge will remain in the university.
  • As we are part of the university, you only need one quote from us for design service.
  • We will also save you time and money by sourcing and controlling the printing for you.
  • We are qualified designers and professionally trained. All creative services provided are performed on campus, therefore we are able to understand and respond to your need faster.
  • Printing from office computers costs you far more in hidden costs such as time, equipment degradation, quality, toner, paper and environment! Doing it yourself is actually more expensive.

What services do we offer?

The Design Studio offers the following services:

  • Design of promotional material for your faculty/school/centre/department/event which may include brochures posters, flyers through to invitations, e–newsletters and web design.
  • Design and DTP of publications such as annual reports, prospectuses, books, and strategic plans.
  • Prepress of jobs that may require troubleshooting before going to print.
  • UNSW stationery and certification which includes all UNSW business cards, letterheads, with compliments slips and all UNSW certificates.

Is the Design Studio as professional as outside contractors?

Actually, more so. We are not administrators but professionals with various degrees and postgraduate degrees, a plethora of university and commercial experience that far exceeds most small studios. We are not students trying to break into the industry or self trained people who have learnt to use a desktop publishing program. And we do not rest on our laurels, as we constant upgrade our knowledge and abilities. We have people trained in:

  • Adobe software such as Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator
  • Web software such as Dreamweaver
  • Web languages such as HTML, CSS and now training in PHP, MySQL, Flash, and javascript.
